Breast Reduction Recovery Tips & Advice
Considering breast reduction surgery? Breast reduction surgery is a highly beneficial procedure for women who suffer from the pain and discomfort of large, heavy breasts. As with any surgical procedure, the key to a successful patient experience is knowledge. At Palisade Plastic Surgery, we provide each and every candidate for breast reduction with the critical information she needs for a complete recovery. We’ve got the breast reduction recovery tips you’ll need before, immediately after, and in the weeks following surgery.
Before Your Breast Reduction Surgery
A little preparation before surgery goes a long way. Because resuming small, daily tasks will be difficult following surgery, plan ahead with your needs. Take the time to stock your fridge with healthy choices and already-prepared meals. Ask a family member or friend to assist with household chores and duties. You’ll also want to enlist the help of someone who is willing to drive you home after your surgery.
Immediately After Your Breast Reduction Surgery
You should expect to spend about two hours in surgery and one hour in post-operative care. A small drainage tube will remain in each breast. Gauze and ACE bandages may be removed the following day, but do not remove the surgical tape covering your incisions. A sports bra will help reduce swelling and alleviate breast discomfort and tightness. We will thoroughly discuss all pain control options with you, including narcotic pain pills. If you do choose narcotics, you may want to consider a stool softener to prevent constipation. The most important thing to remember right after surgery is to get as much rest as possible. To allow your body healing time, plan on taking around two weeks off from work and physical activities.
The Weeks Following Your Surgery
Remember to take it easy! Don’t try to do too much too quickly. Make sure you attend all follow-up appointments so that your healing can be assessed. Your drains will be monitored and eventually removed as the drainage subsides. After the removal of your drain stitch, all other stitches will dissolve on their own.
At Palisade Plastic Surgery we want to ensure you have the best breast reduction surgery experience possible. If you should have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call or come in to our plastic surgery office and see us.
