How a Body Lift Works
New Jersey Lipectomy | Best Plastic Surgeons in NJ
A body lift, also called lipectomy, torsoplasty or panniculectomy, is a procedure that removes excess skin from the upper legs and torso. It is ideal in patients that have loose, inelastic skin that hangs off the body, usually as a result of significant weight loss, age, or childbearing. A body lift tightens areas of the torso and upper legs, like the abdomen, back, buttocks, thighs and hips so patients can look and feel their best.
To tighten the skin, it is lifted from the underlying tissue. Then the muscles revealed are tightened, fat is removed if necessary and the skin is closed up. Dr, Rosenberg uses a special technique he developed that repositions the belly button without visible scars, so it appears natural. If there is any fluid from the procedure, surgical tubes for draining might be necessary for up to 7 days.
Spending time in recovery following a body lift is an important part of the healing process. Patients may shower the following day, but activity should be limited to walking around the house only when necessary. When not walking to the bathroom or around the house, patients should recover in bed for 10 days. Once the drain is removed, abdominal compression garments should be worn to facilitate faster healing.
Dr. Rosenberg has performed many successful body lift procedures. Patients following surgery show smooth body curves and the overall look of a person who has never had a history of loose, inelastic skin. Depending on your body, Dr. Rosenberg might prefer to do two procedures, with the abdominal and truncal portion first.
As with any procedure, patients should be in good overall health. Not everyone is a candidate for a body lift.
